Based
on a 1996 census, there are 30 Cinema establishments in the
whole of Sabah. The total revenue recorded is RM 9,468,000.00
and expenditure is RM 8,665,000.00. One typical movie show
costs around RM5.00 to RM10.00 per person depending on the
location, show time and the movie's popularity. There are
95 video centres operating all over Sabah. The total revenue
recorded is RM 12,532,000.00 and expenditure is RM 11,038,000.00.
A typical one-week rental fee for one video tape ranges from
RM 2.00 to RM 4.00 depending on location, popularity and availability.
There are many other smaller laser disc centres operating
all over Sabah, providing shows to small sections of audience.

around RM 1.2 million.
There are 33 surveyor establishments. The total revenue is recorded
around RM 27 million.
There are 84 law firms. The total revenue is recorded around
RM 33 million.
There are 33 engineering firms. The total revenue is recorded
around RM 46 million.
There are 141 private clinics. The total revenue is recorded
around RM 53million.
There are 57 private dental establishments. The total revenue
is recorded around RM 6 million.
There are 75 accounting firms. The total revenue is recorded
around RM 35 million.
There are 29 architectural firms. The total revenue is recorded
around RM 24 million.
There are 12 building draughtsmen establishments. The total
revenue is recorded around RM 1.6 million.

Sport Facilities
Likas
Sport Complex There are ten sport centres run by various local
authorities all over Sabah. The Likas Sports Complex in Kota
Kinabalu has the full range of facilities for public use.
It has a full-sized football stadium, badminton, tennis and
squash courts, gymnasium and an Olympic-sized swimming pool.
Privately-run recreational clubs are also available, offering
their facilities to members and visitors.
Major hotels such as Tanjung Aru Beach Resort in Kota Kinabalu,
Shangri-la Rasa Ria Resort in Tuaran, Ramada Renaissance in
Sandakan, and Marco Polo in Tawau have sport facilities such
as fitness centres and swimming pools. There are currently
7 golf courses in the state and more courses are being built.
The fees range from RM20.00 to RM100.00 on weekdays and RM50.00
to RM200.00 on weekends for visitors. The premier club, Sabah
Golf and Country Club in Kota Kinabalu, has an 18-hole course.
The Kinabalu Golf Club has a 9-hole course at Tanjung Aru
Beach. Other courses are located in Sandakan, Kudat, Keningau
and Ranau. The Ranau golf course is situated in a 1500-metre
slope, offering golfers a different experience. Water sports
such as white-water rafting, scuba-diving and snorkelling
are also popular in Sabah. Most tours and dive operators offer

Shopping Centers are found in every major town in Sabah. A varieties
of goods from locally made to modern and sophisticated imported
goods are found in most shopping Centers at reasonable prices.
Tamu or weekly local markets are held in all major towns.
These are where local farm and house industry products are
being traded for medium to lower income consumers.

Per Person
There
are 186,480 and 210,121 telephone subscribers in Sabah in 1997
and 1998 respectively. Among the 212,121 subscribers, 144,931
are residential and 65,190 are business office subscribers.
Among these, there are 87,927 lines registered to the International
Subscribers dialing services. The subscribers are growing in
a rate of around 15% to 20% in recent years. Based on the 1998
data, it is estimated at 13 people per phone line in Sabah.

Television
Per Person
Based
on the 1998 data, the Licensing Section Sabah, Ministry of Information
Malaysia has registered 145,533 television licenses in Sabah.
This official data is equivalent to about 19 people per television.
However, many televisions are not registered with the TV License
