History
| Mission |
Organization Structure
The Ministry of Tourism Development,
Environment Science and Technology the main tourism coordinating body
for the state Government. Its mission is to promote an organized development
of the tourism industry, while at the same time preserve the natural
environment in its "unspoiled nature," to encourage tourism to spread
into the rural areas to ensure a balanced development.

1968
- known as the Ministry of Coordination, to monitor development
projects implemented by State and federal departments. |

1976
- The Ministry of Manpower and Environmental Development
was established to take over the functions of the above
Ministry. |

1981
- Ministry’s name was changed to "Ministry of Resource
Development ". It's new functions include the human resources
development, industrial training, tourism development,
protection of Sabah Parks, labour and environment. |

1985
- It reverted back to its
original name as Ministry of Human Resources and Environmental
Development. |

1987
- As tourism became the main focus of the Ministry , it's
name was changed to Ministry of Tourism and Environmental
Development. Wildlife Department came under the purview
of the Ministry while the division of human resource development
was transferred to the Chief Minister's Department. |

1999
- The Science and Technology Unit came under the purview
of the Ministry. It's name changed to Ministry of Tourism
Development, Environment, Science and Technology. |

Mission
To encourage and promote an orderly
development of the tourism industry in the state.
To protect, conserve and preserve the natural beauty of the environment
in its natural state by managing industrial and land development so
that environmental damage will not result in environmental degradation
which may threaten our well-being, as well as endanger our wildlife
and flora.

Objectives
To encourage
and help promote the development of tourism in the state
To protect, preserve and maintain the Sabah Parks and areas of the
tourism potential , their natural landscapes beauty and the environment
for the inheritance of the present and future generations and in the
interest and promotion of tourism
To protect the natural environment by regulating land na industrial
development as to ensure that the destruction of the environment will
not cause pollution thereby endangering the well-being of the populace,
wildlife and plants.
To protect , conserve and mange the fauna of the Sabah through conservation
of viable and representative samples within their natural habitat
and where appropriate to develop The economic potential of wildlife
resources through tourism.
