There
are ten sports centres run by various local authorities all over Sabah.
The Likas Sports Complex in Kota Kinabalu has the full range of facilities
for public use. It has a full-sized football stadium, badminton, tennis
and squash courts, a gymnasium and an Olympic-sized swimming pool.
Privately-run recreational clubs also cater to members and visitors.
Major hotels such as Tanjung Aru Beach Resort in Kota Kinabalu, Shangri-la
Rasa Ria Resort in Tuaran, Ramada Renaissance in Sandakan, and Marco
Polo in Tawau also have sports facilities such as fitness centres
and swimming pools.
There are currently 7 golf courses around the state and more are being
built. The premier club, Sabah Golf and Country Club in Kota Kinabalu,
has an 18-hole course. The Kinabalu Golf Club has a 9-hole course
at Tanjung Aru Beach Resort. The others are located in Sandakan, Kudat,
Keningau and Ranau. The Ranau golf course situated on a 1,500-metre
slope offers golfers a brand new experience.
