Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Bumiputera Chamber of Commerce (DPBS) will sign a Memorandum of Understanding related to the telecommunication business with the Sabah Economic Development Corporation (Sedco) in September.

Announcing this, Acting DPBS Chief, Hasnol Ayub, said Sedco, which has been entrusted with the responsibility of implementing telecommunication projects in the State by the Ministry of Information, Communication and Culture, has agreed to give DPBS members the opportunity to participate in projects to develop telecommunications facilities in the State.

He, however, did not give further details on the projects, saying they were still at the discussion stage.

"If all goes well, the MoU will be signed the latest by September, and this will definitely benefit the members of DPBS.

"At the same time, the telecommunication facilities will help enhance communication services especially in the rural areas," he said here Thursday.

On future plans, Hasnol said DPBS has come up with new strategies to position its members on a better footing especially their involvement in the development projects undertaken by the Government in the State.

"We plan to classify all DPBS members according to the grades of their contract licenses and we will guide them towards achieving a higher level of license. We want them to progress in their business or at least see a rise in their business activities," he said.

Last November, DPBS had organised the "Borneo International Trade Fair" at the Likas Sports Complex here, which saw the participation of 236 exhibitors comprising both local and foreign entrepreneurs.

Hasnol said the four-day trade fair pulled in an estimated 60,000 visitors.

On another note, Hasnol announced that DPBS will be holding its annual general meeting here this Sunday, Aug 1. - Bernama
